Morrison's Cove
Morrison's Cove is a fertile farm valley surrounded by the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. The Cove is about 39 miles long and averages 8 miles in width. Many of the early settlers were German or Swiss, either coming direct from Germany or from the eastern part of Pennsylvania.

Driving north from Bedford, we drove to Morrison's Cove. At the base of the mountain, we found ourselves on Brumbaugh Road which today is simply a T-intersection. The original Brumbaugh homestead, torn down in 1997, was located here. Also about 500 feet back up the mountain was the site of the Simon S. Brumbaugh Distillery. It was in operation from the late 1800s to the early 1900s.

We drove to New Enterprise, Pennsylvania, where we were fortunate to meet Ray G., a distant relative, and Jim B., the valley's genealogist. They directed us to the New Enterprise Cemetery where early settlers are buried. This cemetery sits up behind a farm in a beautiful pastoral setting.
